Pixels and Polyhedrals – The Hive

Published by Blog Baphomet on

Here at Black Candle we like to and get inspired. We find inspiration in everything from other RPGs, to books, movies, and music but we’re especially fond of video games. When we aren’t designing tabletop stuff, sleeping, or participating in other biologically mandated activities we’re probably playing video games of some sort. Let’s be perfectly honest, sometimes we should be designing tabletop stuff when we’re instead capitvated by the ever-tightening clutches of our Steam libraries.

Per the instructions in the Shadow of the Demon Lord core rulebook, sometimes you’ve just gotta’ steal liberally to make the most fun for your games. We’re doing precisely that in this, our first installment of “Pixels & Polyhedrals” where we take our favorite video game bits and turn them into tabletop goodness.

Lately, Hunt: Showdown has been in Jerry’s rotation. It’s absolutely drenched in atmosphere, dripping with tension, and feels perfectly inline with that of Schwalb Entertainment’s offerings. One foe in Hunt is particularly haunting and will kill you rather quickly if you’re not cautious, and that’s the Hive, also known as ‘terrible bee lady‘.  We spent the afternoon playing a few (dozen) rounds to make sure our inspiration was spot-on before whipping this up, you know… for good measure. So we hope you enjoy and please let us know if you wind up putting one of them down at your table, and if so, how it went!
